Bosses are part of Wanderburg’s core growth loop: the official press kit connects defeating them with further castle expansion. That makes preparing for a major encounter a different decision from pursuing another small target.
This page covers the boss system and preparation.
This guide focuses on preparing for bosses and major enemy-fortress encounters: choosing an approach, timing abilities, managing exposure, and recovering after a committed attack.
Major encounters and regional challenges
The Dark Tower appears in the Difficulty 1 balance changes, while Taurus Drillus appears in the Grassland 2 adjustments. Keep the region and difficulty in mind when preparing for these named encounters.
Desert overtime introduces a different endurance question from an ordinary clear. The Overtime Mortar received stronger attacks and changed projectile flight behavior in 0.9.8. Watch the approach of incoming attacks before committing your castle to a close pass.
Against a large enemy fortress, prepare an opening and a recovery plan together. A successful attack still leaves you with the next movement decision: continue, turn away, or wait for another ability window.
Prepare an opening and an exit
approach a new major opponent with room to move. Watch what happens before committing to a close pass, and keep a route that does not force you through another threat. A failed approach should teach you something about timing rather than immediately ending the experiment.
Check the availability of the active ability you expect to use. If your setup depends on a particular action, entering while it is unavailable can be a bigger problem than a modest difference in theoretical damage. A captain with a cooldown drawback makes that question especially relevant.
A practical preparation sequence is to identify the action you intend to use, check that it is available, and inspect where the approach will end. If the route already crosses several threats, reconsider the line before committing. This checklist is general editorial advice for enemy-fortress combat; it is not a claimed script for a particular boss phase.
During the engagement, treat an unsuccessful pass as information. Did the action fail to contribute, did the opponent remain dangerous after it landed, or did another enemy interfere? Those observations point toward different adjustments. A stronger attack might help the second problem while leaving the third completely unchanged.
Do not assume universal control or protection
Force Mage can cancel incoming projectiles, while Electric Mage has a stun-capable active ability. Use these actions deliberately, and keep moving when the situation calls for a new position.
Electric Mage has a stun-capable ability, but a control effect being present does not prove every major opponent is affected equally.
Similarly, a Ram setup asks you to commit the vehicle itself to the attack. Evaluate whether you can recover after the pass. This is why a close-contact demonstration should not be copied solely from its damage result.
If an expected defensive action does not protect you, do not immediately assume it is broken or universally ineffective. First identify what hit the castle and whether that is the interaction you were trying to answer. Repositioning to reduce the number of simultaneous threats can make the next observation clearer. No immunity, stun duration, or guaranteed safe distance is asserted here.
Rewards and overtime notes
Hotfix 0.9.9 made boss tombstones collectible and said they drop silver. That is a reward-related change, but no amount or full loot table is supplied here.
The achievement announcements also distinguish normal wins from overtime and describe fixes to win checks. If you are investigating progression rather than endurance, keep the run outcome and whether you entered overtime in your notes.
Category questions
Where is the full named boss list?
No speculative records are published.
Can every boss be stunned?
An ability having a stun effect is not enough to establish every target’s susceptibility.
Do bosses drop silver?
The 0.9.9 note says collectible boss tombstones drop silver. It does not give an amount.
